ID Released For Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting On Long Island

The identity of the man who was killed in a police-involved shooting overnight on Long Island has been released.

The incident happened around 10:20 p.m.on Thursday, Dec. 19 in Brentwood.

Suffolk County Police officers were on patrol in a marked vehicle when they initiated a stop of a vehicle in the parking lot of the Brentwood Long Island Railroad Station.

The driver of the vehicle, now identified as Emanuel Johnson III, 21, of Brentwood, fled from the officers on foot while carrying a backpack, according to police.

The officers pursued Johnson on foot eastbound on Suffolk Avenue to the rear of 908 Suffolk Ave., where they deployed a Taser that was ineffective, police said.

Johnson then displayed a handgun, shots were fired, and Johnson was hit, according to police.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A handgun was recovered at the scene. The officers were not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
